Ensure that decisions about the management of our coast are based on sound science and
good governance.

  • Support a science-based master planning process.
  • Support the continuation of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) as the lead for all coastal planning and implementation.
  • Support science-based coastal management practices and decisions independent of
    the political landscape.
  • Support short- and long-term planning.
    • Support projects that provide short-term benefits to communities facing
      challenges.
    • Support plans and policies with the foresight to be realistic and face the hard
      questions before us about the coast in the long term.
  • Support and encourage continued nonpartisan approaches to coastal issues.
  • Support innovative funding and revenue sources for coastal restoration.
    • Federal: RISEE Act, BREEZE ACT, GOMESA, RESTORE
    • State: Coastal Trust Fund, emerging energy revenue, surplus spending
  • Support a comprehensive hurricane protection system which utilizes natural defenses.
  • Support the Multiple Lines of Defense strategy for coastal protection.

Maximize the use of natural systems to restore and protect our coast.

  • Support river diversions, both natural crevasses and engineered.
  • Support and prioritize sustainable solutions utilizing natural materials and living shorelines.
  • Support beneficial use dredging policies.
  • Support the restoration of natural hydrologic processes to keep freshwater and saltwater in balance with ecological health.
  • Support policies that encourage the incorporation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge
    when appropriate.

Coastal Conservation

Minimize additional harm to Louisiana wetlands.

  • Support protections for existing wetlands.
  • Support mitigation policies that encourage in-basin restoration and consider our coast’s overall ecology.
  • Support policies that encourage public participation and education in conserving and
    restoring the coast.
  • Support the education and engagement of coastal residents in making their voices heard.

Celebrate and support the cultural and economic opportunities along our coast.

  • Support policies that protect and uplift communities and cultures along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast.
  • Support Louisiana’s working coast.
  • Support coastal workforce development.
  • Support Louisiana’s seafood industry, recognizing that fisheries are dependent upon
    wetlands
  • Work with all invested players for coastal restoration.
  • Support the growth of existing and emerging renewable energy opportunities.

  • Support policies that recognize Louisiana’s vulnerability to climate change (rising sea levels, excessive heat, and more intense weather events.)
  • Support innovative management of important bodies of water and waterways along the coast; specifically, the Atchafalaya and Mississippi Rivers.
  • Support policies that recognize change are inevitable, considering actions that shape
    change, minimize impacts and adjust.
  • Support policies that adapt the way we live with water.
