Congratulations! You received a gift tree.

What’s next?

Your tree, along with other dedicated trees, will be planted in the Central Wetlands near New Orleans, where it will one day become part of a forest, providing wildlife habitat and hurricane protection to communities.

The Central Wetlands Unit was heavily impacted by historic logging and the construction of the Mississippi Gulf Outlet (MRGO). What once was a thick and healthy swamp is now mostly marsh and open water. Restoring the swamp forest will result in higher-quality wildlife habitat, storm surge and wind protection, and healthier ecosystems.

As 2024 winds down, we’re eagerly looking ahead to 2025 and the growth of the bald cypress trees we planted in the Central Wetlands. These trees are just beginning their journey, and we can’t wait to watch them take root and thrive! We’ll continue sharing updates on their progress right here, but if you’d like to get involved, visit our volunteer page to join us for upcoming restoration events. Together, we’re making a lasting impact! 🌳🌱
