State of the Coast Conference
The premier gathering on the restoration of Louisiana’s coast.
Every two years, CRCL and its conference partners gather to exchange information and ideas, to network, to learn and to lead. State of the Coast is the largest statewide conference of its kind, providing an interdisciplinary forum to exchange timely and relevant information on the dynamic conditions of Louisiana’s coastal communities, environment and economy.
SOC2023 was held May 31 to June 2, 2023 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. 2025 conference dates TBA!
Interdisciplinary approach
SOC consists of three days of presentations by leading experts in ten overarching topic areas, keynote talks, poster sessions and networking opportunities.
SOC brings together scientists, landowners, land managers, federal and state agency personnel, elected officials, industry and business leaders, resource users, students and residents of coastal communities.
Professional development
SOC provides professional development hours for attorneys and engineers in Louisiana through the concurrent sessions.
Additionally, SOC hosts student volunteers and community and student scholarships.
recognizing coastal champions
SOC hosts CRCL Coastal Stewardship Awards, where we honor Louisiana’s coastal heroes.
In addition to student scholarships, CRCL and SeaGrant host the SOC Student Awards, where top SOC student presentations win cash prizes.
coastal networking
We make learning fun with the poster reception and happy hour.
Students, researchers and industry leaders present their work with an interactive hour to connect presenters, exhibitors and attendees.
Other side meetings, FUNdraisers and extra events balance your time in New Orleans with fun activities that support the coast.
connecting art and science
Art and artists across all mediums are important for telling the story of the coast. SOC works with local filmmakers to organize a dedicated film room throughout the conference.
SOC2023 content also included a plenary speech and book signing with author Mike Tidwell, local photography and book signing by Ben Depp, and a poem excerpt from local artist and writer Ray “Moose” Jackson. We are looking forward to expanding the role of art throughout the conference in 2025 and beyond.
Sponsor benefits
State of the Coast is made possible through sponsorship funding and partnerships.
SOC sponsors benefit from extensive promotion leading up to and throughout the conference, recognition on materials and signage as well as their presence in the exhibitor hall, where we host several events throughout the conference.
